NOTICE OF REGULAR MEETING

The next regular meeting of the London Professional Fire Fighters Association will be held on Tuesday, February 11th, 2020, AT THE LONDON POLICE ASSOCIATION BUILDING, located at the corner of William Street and York Street, COMMENCINGAT 7:00 P.M.

–         Your Executive will be providing an update on the status of ongoing Association Business.

Reminders: 

–         Proposed changes to the Constitution and By-Laws for the March Association meeting shall be received in writing by the LPFFA Secretary no later than Thursday, March 7th at 5:00 pm (Please note that the March Association Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday March 12th) for consideration.

–         The 2020 OPFFA Dr. DeFazio-Taylor Spring Health & Labour Education Seminar is scheduled for March 22nd to 26th in Niagara Falls. If you are interested in attending, please submit your name to the LPFFA Secretary by Feb 12th, 2020.

ARTICLE VIII – Constitutional Amendments

To Amend the Constitution

Regular Proposals for Amendment

No later than the third Tuesday following the February regular meeting, the Secretary shall distribute to all stations and divisions a notification of the opportunity for members to submit proposed amendments to the Constitution. All proposed amendments shall be submitted in writing to the Secretary, no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the regular March meeting.

A proposed amendment shall be served by notice of motion at the March regular meeting. The proposal shall state the Article(s) or Section(s) to be amended. In the event that the member making the formal motion is unavailable at the March regular meeting, the proposed Notice of Motion shall be signed by the member who will be making the formal motion and may be presented at the March regular meeting by a substitute member. The Secretary shall ensure that copies of all proposed amendments are distributed to all stations and divisions no later than the third Tuesday of March.

The member serving the Notice of Motion must be present to make the formal motion and will do so at the April regular meeting. The motion cannot be amended or deferred. The motion must have a two-thirds affirmative vote of the members present at the meeting to be referred to a referendum of the general membership and receive a majority in the ballots cast in the referendum.

An amendment which receives the necessary adoption at the April regular meeting and the general membership referendum shall become effective immediately upon the completion of the ratification process, unless otherwise stipulated in the amendment resolution.

Voting for referendums shall be the same as the method used in elections.

Special Proposals for Amendment

If it is the opinion of the Executive Committee that a special Constitutional meeting is necessary, the President shall have the Secretary distribute a notice to all stations and divisions fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the next regular meeting date which shall include the reason for the amendments and the proposed amendments. This meeting shall be held the night of the next regularly scheduled meeting. At this meeting the Vice-President shall serve notice of the amendments.

Formal Notice of Motion shall take place at the next regular meeting. The motion cannot be amended or deferred. The motion must have a two-thirds affirmative vote of the members present at the meeting to be referred to a referendum of the general membership and receive a majority in the ballots cast in the referendum.

The amendment which receives the necessary adoption at the said regular meeting and the general membership referendum shall become effective immediately upon the completion of the ratification process, unless otherwise stipulated in the amendment resolution.

This notification may be served with the same one calling for amendments to the Constitution. All proposed amendments shall be submitted in writing to the Secretary, no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the regular March meeting.

A proposed amendment shall be served by notice of motion at the March regular meeting. The proposal shall state the Article(s) or Section(s) of the By-Law to be amended. In the event that the member making the formal motion is unavailable at the March regular meeting, the proposed Notice of Motion shall be signed by the member who will be making the formal motion and may be presented at the March regular meeting by a substitute member.
